U.S. Veteran Johnny (John) L. Conrad, 66, of Orlando, West Virginia, joined his heavenly father at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia on Friday, September 21, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born October 31, 1945 in Orlando, West Virginia, the son of the late Emmett and Rethe (Vankirk) Conrad. On June 6, 1969, he married Phyllis M. (Riffle) Conrad, who survives. John is also survived by two children: Jason (Angie) Conrad of Jane Lew, WV and Jim (Debbie) Conrad of Grand Junction, CO; four grandchildren: Jonathon Conrad, Tyler Conrad, Shane Braddford and Brittany Braddford; one great grandchild Brayden Braddford; two brothers: Bill (Ressie) Conrad of Aurora, WV and Lane Conrad of Martinez, GA; one sister: Beulah Ford of New Middletown, OH, also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers: Junior Conrad of Gassaway, WV, Raymond Conrad of Bridgeport, WV and Gene Conrad of Orlando, WV; one sister: Pauline Conrad of Orlando, WV. He retired from West Virginia Army National Guard (Company B 1096) in 2003 after 29 years of service at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, Papaw and a Christian. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, WV football, spending time with family, friends, grandchildren, his beloved pet Cassie and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He attended First Baptist Church in Burnsville, West Virginia. He will always be remembered by his smile and sense of humor. Funeral services for John will be held at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home, Flatwoods, West Virginia on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Tony Conrad and Austin White officiating. Burial will follow the service in Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens, Heaters, West Virginia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.stockert-sizemore.com.
